Place one bulb in the transparent
bulb holder or plastic bottle, which has been filled with water.
Place more bulbs in compost
or garden soil. Ensure that the tip of the bulb if level with the surface
of the soil. Ensure that they are well spaced out and water the bulbs.
Place dark paper over them or place them in a dark place.
After about two months put
them in a warm sunny place e.g. window sill.
At this stage the shoots will
have appeared above the soil.
The children will see the roots
emerging from the bulbs in the transparent containers. Encourage the children
to record the growth of a particular bulb – on Page 2.
Discuss the various parts of
the plant – bulb, stem, roots, leaves, flowers, and seeds. Encourage the
children to complete the diagram on Page 2
